Parkour is an activity that involves using one's own body to navigate through an obstacle course and complete a predetermined route. The act of doing so is known as parkourism, and those who practice it are called practitioners or simply parkourists. The term "parkour" is a portmanteau of "parkourism" and "sports".

The most important thing about parkour is that it is a sport that is performed in a controlled environment, either on a flat surface or a thin surface, such as a thin layer of water. In this environment, the athlete moves by jumping and sliding, and moving from one piece of surface to the next.

This is because the surface on which the athlete moves is a platform that is designed to prevent the athlete from falling. This is done by providing a fixed point of reference, such as a tree, or a rock, or the ground. The surface on which the athlete moves is also referred to as a stage.

A parkour course consists of a set of obstacles that the athlete must navigate through to reach a predetermined endpoint. The obstacles are designed to test the athlete's abilities and skill. The course is designed so that if an athlete falls during the course, the fall will not hurt the athlete. The goal of the athlete is to not fall during the course.
